Our favorite eBike under $1000

The compact folding electric bike we’ve come to love from Lectric just got better. The new Lectric XP Lite 2.0 gets the updates and features many have been waiting for. If you haven’t looked the XP Lite before the XP Lite 2.0 will definitely be one worth checking out.

As a brand, Lectric strives to offer the highest quality electric bikes for the lowest possible price tags, trying to bring the ultimate value to the table. The XP Lite 2.0 might just be the best representation of that for Lectric.

With a few weeks riding the XP Lite 2.0 around, there’s a lot to love with the minimal compact folding electric bike. Starting at $799 this Class 2 electric bike is ideal for urban dwelling and those looking to get an electric bike that’s easy to store.

Lectirc XP Lite. 20

The XP Lite 2.0 is a Class 2 electric bike with Pedal Assist up to 20mph. Yes there’s a way to bump up the juice a little bit, but we’ll save that for our long term review.

Lectric’s Stealth M24 300w rear hub motor supplies power to the XP Lite 2.0 with 28nm of torque and a peak output of around 819 watts.

The standard battery is a 7.8Ah battery that is removable from the frame and offers up to 45 miles on a full charge. If you’re looking for more juice you now can upgrade to a long range battery, or purchase separately, this is a 14Ah battery that nearly will double your range. As with all of Lectric’s bikes, the XP Lite 2.0 is UL 2271 compliant and has been tested to all the standards to ensure it is safe and sturdy.

Hydraulic disc brakes supply stopping power to 180mm rotors. We find this to be one of the best upgrades to the XP Lite. Speaking of upgrades, the XP Lite 2.0 also gets Lectric new color display with integrated USB charging port.

Along with the list of new features, the XP Lite 2.0 will come in more colorways, including the Lavender Haze which we have been testing that looks absolutely great.

How big is the XP Lite 2.0?

As far as sizing is concerned, the XP Lite 2.0 has a 22″ standover height and a minimum seat height of 32″. Opening the doors to riders comfortably at 4’8″. On the taller end of things, Lectric feels confident that a rider up to 6’2″ would feel comfortable on the XP Lite 2.0 with the help of the adjust stem for bar height, but we feel as though a longer seat post is necessary to get full leg extension.

When the XP Lite is folded up it can be as compact as 36″ x 27″ at about 16″ wide. This is very compact for easy storage in the back of most vehicles, RV or camper.

Weighing in at 49 pounds, the XP Lite 2.0 may not be the lightest electric bike on the market, but from our experience with folding electric bikes, it is one of the lightest folding electric bikes we’ve seen.

It has an overall payload capacity of 275 pounds and mounting points for accessories like bottle cages or a front basket. Which for most riders being able to haul around nearly 100 pounds of gear with them is quite a bit and the 300w motor doesn’t feel overwhelmed when doing so.

Who is the XP Lite 2.0 for?

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, the Lectric XP Lite 2.0 is nearly a perfect fit for so many riders. First and foremost we always are thinking of people that live in tighter living spaces. From apartments to dorm rooms, its compact and folding nature allows it to fit into many more spaces when not in use.

We can’t help but to think of travelers, people loading up their campers or RV’s and hitting the road. Being able to fold them up and store them in under storage on an RV or conveniently inside a camper makes traveling with a pair easy to manage on the road.

Of course there are people that don’t fit the mold of truly “needing” a folding bike, but they are simply looking for an affordable eBike. Starting at $799 we can’t help but to rank the XP Lite 2.0 high on our list of affordable electric bikes to suggest. Largely this is in part to the safety and testing that the XP Lite undergoes.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re looking for a folding electric bike, or the $799 price tag sounds good, the XP Lite 2.0 is sure to deliver a fun ride around town.

While our personal lifestyle favors more power and larger batteries, the XP Lite still fits nicely into our quiver as a quick grab to ride to the coffee shop or the park.

When it comes to folding bikes that weigh 70 pounds or more, we’re always confused as to what the appeal is. With a 49 pound overall weight, folding the XP Lite 2.0 up and tossing it into the back of the car or even inside the cab of my truck is so easy and is a very manageable weight to move around.

We know a lot of people are hoping for loads of power with their electric bikes, but for us we found the 300w and 20mph max assist to be perfect for this bike. Charging downhill at 30mph it rolls smooth, but we could definitely see how it could feel a bit squirrely going to fast. It has a short wheelbase and small wheels, that’s not the ideal blend for going super fast. At 20mph the XP Lite 2.0 feels smooth and in control, with the upgrade to Hydraulic disc brakes, coming to a stop and regulating speed is much nicer and smoother across the board.

Overall, the XP Lite 2.0 is a super fun bike and we love seeing it in the Lectric line up. It really is the ideal bike for a lot of riders and one that can open the doors to many more people being able to get on two wheels safely.
